2019 Honolulu Chinese New Year Parade

Celebrating Chinese New Year Through Downtown Honolulu

HONOLULU, HI – Thousands of spectators packed the streets of Hawaii’s Chinatown for the Year of the Pig. Saam Fu Chinese Cultural Arts celebrated with them in the 2019 Honolulu Chinese New Year Parade.

Cloudy and rainy weather gave way to clear skies for this year’s parade. Starting from the State Capitol, Saam Fu made its way down Hotel Street. Revelers lining the downtown Honolulu streets eagerly fed our lion dancers lai see packets for good luck. They were eager to pose for selfies with our lions as well. In between stops along the parade route, our students gave kung fu demonstrations for the appreciative crowd.

The keiki lion was especially popular with the spectators. Excellent job, Saam Fu cubs! We are very proud of you!

Mahalo to all the event organizers, volunteers and sponsors for making the 2019 Honolulu Chinese New Year Parade and block party possible. Keeping this tradition alive means so much to the thousands that look forward to this event every year.

Thank you to the dedicated Saam Fu members, friends, parents and family as well. Some flew from the mainland to be with us, and we are very thankful you made the journey. You were all very generous for spending your Saturday with us. Saam Fu had another successful outing thanks to your efforts. We couldn’t have done it without you and hope to see you again next year!
